Granular Limestone

Pelletized LimeThis granular limestone is pulverized, then granulated. Pulverized Limestone is a very finely ground naturally mined or quarried limestone.   AgLime (the most commonly known product)  is a rougher grind (60 vs 200) of the same material.

Limestone in either of these forms or as a form of liquid lime (already in suspension) is used to nullify the acid levels in the soil when the PH is below 6.

The effectiveness of any of these forms of Limestone to do their “job”, is directly related to the size of the particles (fineness of size) and quality of the material ( how much “Calcium Carbonate Effectiveness – CCE).  As mentioned, AgLime is ground so that most of it will go through a 60 mesh screen (60 holes in a square inch).  Pulverized Limestone is ground to go through a mesh 3.5 times smaller (200) than regular AgLime.

The result is that the “fine” particles have a much greater surface area and breakdown very quickly into the soil solution.  This additional surface area allows the use of small quantities of this material in place of large quantities of AgLime to facilitate the same proposal in weeks instead of years.

Another benefit of using the pulverized material is that it can be applied through a hydromulcher and “shot or applied” almost anywhere and while mixed with NPK, tackifier, seeds and mulch which gives the contractor a more complete, “one pass” product.

This saves having to use spreader trucks or lime buggies and saves materials handling time by 60+% because this pulverized material is used at a rate of 250 - 500 lbs per acre instead of 2000 lbs of regular AgLime.

The Pulverized material we are handling, comes in 40 lb bags and is pelletized.  The purpose is to almost eliminate any dust in handling and to make the product more versatile so it can also be put out by a fertilizer type spreader.  The pulverized material is encapsulated using a liquid solution to form small pellets which, when coming in contact with moisture, fall apart and go into solution immediately (a pellet dropped into a glass of water will disintegrate in 30-40 seconds).

Pulverized limestone is a very effective and versatile product which can be used in many situations of low PH. It works quickly and is easy to handle, even when raising the PH of a pond or taking care of food plots way out in the woods.  When all of the facts (costs vs time vs benefits) are considered, it is a tremendously cost effective product.  Calcium Sulfate (Gypsum) and Dolomite (High Magnesium) Lime are also available in the same pelletized form.
